1\. Sometimes this attribute is called Zion, and the relationship between Zion and Jerusalem is the same as that of *El Hai \[Yesod\]* and *Adonai \[Malchut\]*, *zachor \[Yesod\]* and *shamor \[Malchut\]*. From within Zion, which is the final *sefirah* of the upper nine *sefirot*, God dwells in Jerusalem, which symbolizes the tenth *sefirah* below, as it is written (Psalms 135:21): *Y-H-V-H is the source of blessings, which are from Zion, which dwells in Jerusalem. Bless Yud Heh\!* And it is written (Psalms 133:3): *Like the dew which flows down from Mount Hermon onto the mountains of Zion, \[for there Y-H-V-H ordained that the blessing would flow – life – to the whole world\].* And from there the blessing flows to Jerusalem and to the whole world. And we have already explained that *El Hai \[Yesod/Zion\]* is the final of the nine upper sefirot, and it pours blessings into *Adonai \[Malkhut/Jerusalem\]* 2\. And so it is when there are righteous people in the world, then YHVH, the source of all blessings, emanates hir blessings below. Through what do the blessings flow? Through Zion, as it is written (Psalms 50:2), *From Zion, from the totality of beauty, divinity emerges*. 3\. And if, God forbid, Israel acts unjustly, what does it say (Isaiah 57:1)? *Because of evil the righteous one is removed.* And the righteous one is the attribute of Zion. And it is written: (Proverbs 10:25) *The righteous one is the foundation of the world.* And it is written (Psalms 50:2), *From Zion, from the totality of beauty, divinity emerges*. And when the attribute of the righteous one is absent, then Mount Zion is destroyed. What is written about the removal of *el hai* \[Yesod\] from Mount Zion? Then it is written (Lamentations 5:18), *On Mount Zion which is desolate, jackals walk there.* Who are the jackals who walk there? Various powers of impurity that are referred to as (Song of Songs 2:15): *small jackals destroying the vineyards.* Who are the vineyards? They are (Isaiah 5:7) *the vineyard of YHVH \[Lord of\] hosts*. 4\. But in the future, what does it say? (Ovadia 1:21), *The redeemers will rise on Mount Zion to judge Mount Esau, and YHVH will reign on that day,* and then Jerusalem and Zion will be one, because Jerusalem is the city of divine reign (Malchut), and that’s what it means in the verse that *YHVH will reign*. And this is the secret of (Zecharia 9:9), *Rejoice daughter of Zion, sing out daughter of Jerusalem*. 5\. And when the sefirot return to their proper constellation, what does it say? (Isaiah 27:13) *And the ones lost in Assyria, and those driven away in Mitsrayim*, *will \[return to Jerusalem and\] prostrate themselves before YHVH at the Holy Mountain in Jerusalem*. The Holy Mountain – that is Mount Zion – in the city of Jerusalem, the city of God’s reign \[Malkhut\]. 6\. And this is the secret to which the sages alluded (Zohar 3:226b): Who are *the lost ones*? It is as is written (Isaiah 57:1): *The tsaddik is lost*. And what did he lose? He lost *justice* \[symbolizing Malkhut\]. And therefore *the lost ones will come* – the righteous one who lost justice, and justice who lost the righteous one, and thus they are called *the lost ones who will come*, justice \[Malkhut\] and the righteous one \[Yesod\], and they are called the Holy Mountain \[Yesod\] and Jerusalem \[Malkhut\]. And in keeping with this principle, we say in prayer \[the Blessed Holy One\] will return hir *Shekhinah* \[Malkhut\] to Zion, and this is the secret of the saying of the sages *blessed is one who returns a lost thing to its owner.*
